Sliders Torrington Closing

TORRINGTON – Sliders Grill & Bar will be permanently closing their Torrington location at 84 Main Street. All staff members will be offered positions at other Sliders locations.

“The business climate is in an awkward place right now,” explains Fred Marcantonio, president and CEO of Sliders. “Our neighbor, Warner Theatre, is closed for the foreseeable future due to the Covid-19 social distancing requirements. This means that all of the show-goers who help to bring Main Street to life, aren’t visiting downtown Torrington anymore. It’s tough.”

Businesses that depend on foot traffic in downtown areas as suffering in these times. Warner Theatre brought 1,700 people, per show, to downtown Torrington. This loss drastically changes the way that local businesses can function. While the Sliders brand is thriving in their other five locations, Torrington is not slated to succeed in the same way during these difficult times in a downtown environment.

“We love the people of Torrington and will miss them,” says Marcantonio. “It’s been a privilege to serve the amazing people in this city. This community is a strong one. We are currently developing some new plans, with new locations in the works, so that we can all still stay connected.”

In the meantime, Sliders Grill & Bar is moving full steam ahead on some improvements to their other locations, while also opening and expanding patios to meet the demands of spacious outdoor dining. Southington Sliders is undergoing a full exterior remodel, with new siding, new paving and a brand-new patio to be opening soon. Both Berlin and Plainville have been completely gutted inside and are undergoing full-scale renovations and remodeling. Plus, Berlin is also getting a freshly paved parking lot.

“We’re taking the opportunity to revamp and modernize Berlin and Plainville, they’ll be gorgeous. Modern, clean aesthetics. Large, new, spacious patios will also be incredibly beneficial to our guests who are seeking al fresco dining this summer. We’re excited about finding new ways of doing business during Covid-19 so that our Sliders community can remain connected in a safe, relaxing way. We need wings, good beer and time with family right now, more than ever,” says Lisa Marcantonio, head of marketing and recruiting for Sliders.
